New Year, New Blog

Welcome!
If you are coming here from my old blog, She's A Kwilt Noob, thanks so much for making the trip!
I feel like it is time to let that blog go since I don't really feel like a "noob" anymore.
That is not to say I'm now Nancy Knowitall, that's for sure.  There are more holes in my quilting education than there are in a wheel of swiss cheese.  I just believe that Spoolhardy suits my personality better.  In my quilting life, more than my "real" life, I tend to sort of jump in to things with both feet, not always giving much thought to how it will turn out.  It is also the name that I use over on Twitter, and on Flickr as well.  This new blog will make things more consistent.

So, new year, new blog.  Sounds like the perfect time for a new quilt!
Katy of Monkey Do and Fat Quarterly Magazine has started a quilt along for people working on the Swoon pattern by Camille Roskelley.

I'm sure you've seen this quilt around the blogateria.  It is beyond fabulous and right up my alley in that it is modern but still makes a nod towards the traditional.

Amanda's

This one is done is halloween prints.  It was the first Swoon I'd ever seen and it still blows my mind. Those blocks are ginormous!  This baby finishes at 80" square.  Holy moly! It was made by Amanda of Hey Porkchop fame.  She, like her quilt is darling and adorable.  She is not, however, huge!  Check out her blog, cuz not only can this chick quilt, she is a mad woman in the kitchen.  YUM!

12 blocks of sunshine
By GoldWillow

I love how bright and cheery this one by GoldWillow is.  I also love that different fabric/color choices serve to emphasize different parts of the block.  She also had some great advice for me as I begin this quilt, which, from what I've seen so far, can be a real monster to piece!

I haven't done a quilt along since Blockapalooza almost a year ago.  I had such a blast with that one which was led by John Q. Adams aka Quilt Dad, also of Fat Quarterly, I just knew that the time was right to do another one.  And let's face it, those Fat Quarterly kids are good fun!

So, I'm in!

I've decided to use Going Coastal by Emily Herrick for Michael Miller.  I've got the fabric cut for the blocks, but I've got my solid background fabric on order.  I've been stalking my UPS tracking service and it looks like they be here tomorrow. Yay!

One thing I've learned about this pattern so far is that if you like to cut fabric, you will LOVE working on this quilt, because, man oh man, is there a lot of cutting to be done!

So?  What do you think?  Want to Swoon along?  C'mon.  You know you do!

Imhave been thinking of doing a swoon block for a pillow, but I have to get my todo list done first.

  2. I can't wait to see how it turns out with Going Coastal. I just got some yardage of that last week. I'm going to make the Cabana quilt out of it. What color is your background going to be?

    I'm doing the swoon-along with Terrain. :)

  3. I bought this pattern months ago and did one block just because I had to try it out and YES! So much cutting! I planned on cutting a block at a time, but I may have to do what you did and just cut it all out at once. I love the Going Coastal, I'm excited to see how it turns out!

  4. Aaaarrrrggghhhh, Swoon...the mother of all quilts. It is most certainly doing my head in and I am so thankful for the Flickr group, other wise I think I would be insane by now.
