Design (Divine?) Inspiration

Another long blogging break! I have been so inspired lately and have been doing tons of sewing, but when I finish a project I just want to move on to the next one, not spend time writing about what I just finished. As usual, I blame Twitter! It's just too easy to pop on there, post a picture, get that instant feedback (love my tweeps!) and move on.
Today I thought I'd take a moment to do a quick recap of some things I've made, talk about one project that completely captured me, and throw out some ideas for future projects.

So, here we go!

I spied this cute little bag on Pinterest months ago and it has been in the back of my mind ever since.

Here is my version
I used some beautiful Belgian Linen Toile that was given to me by my friend Carter's mom. The polka dot bow is also a home decor fabric. This has become my "everyday" bag and I just love it. It's the perfect size, not too big, not too small, and it has pockets inside that hold my chapstick and cell phone. What more does a girl need?

Next, I felt like playing around with some reverse appliqué. I mean, who doesn't, right? So, I thought I'd dress up the iPad I stole borrowed from Mr. Wonderful.

I didn't even notice until I had finished that the print fabric under the mustache says "Roosevelt Wins Fourth Election." I love those happy accidents!

Now for the project that really got my creative juices flowing!
Princess G. sent me a picture of a tapestry that she got for her apartment at school,

and a set of canvases she painted to go with it,

and asked if I would make her a pillow for her couch.
Would I? I couldn't wait!!
I made a couple drawings, and finally decided on the one:

and in a couple days I had this:

I'm kind of in love with it, and really had a hard time parting with it. I'm sure there will be many more of these in my future!

I'm beginning to feel like a quilter who doesn't quilt! My future projects will definitely include a couple quilts. First up is one I've had on my "must do" list for ages. Vanessa Christiansen's Houndstooth Quilt!

Mine is going to be red and white and Twin size. I've got the fabric, and the fancy schmancy ruler, I just have to stop making bags and get started!

What are you working on? What inspires you? I'd love to know!
Cheers!
Mary

  3. Very nice sewing! You are a very good seamstress. (Yes, I know that's the old word, but I like it.) Anyway, I'm enjoying your blog. I found you on Moda Bakeshop and plan to come back for more. Now get to work on that red and white quilt so we can enjoy more of your work.
